When stories open doors to exciting new worlds, it’s easy to get lost in a book!
In Fall 2025, invite your students to frolic with fairies, garden with gnomes, and tinker with trolls, all while finding their next favorite book. Here are a few ways you can transform your space into a magical forest that encourages readers to explore your book fair. And remember, those who wander these fabled woods always return braver and brighter than before.
1. Garden Gate Entrance: Transform the entrance to your book fair into a magical garden gate! Decorate it with vines, flowers, twinkling fairy lights, and a whimsical “Welcome to the Everglow Forest Book Fair” sign. Have students “unlock” the magic of the book fair with oversized keys to get inside, setting the tone for a magical experience.
2. Fairy Dust Treasure Hunt: Organize a scavenger hunt where students can search for hidden “fairy dust” jars (glitter or colorful sand-filled bottles). Each jar can have a clue or fun fact about a book featured at the fair. Offer small prizes like bookmarks, stickers, or enchanted tokens for finding all the jars.
3. A Storybook Wishing Well: Set up a wishing well where students can write their book wishes on leaf-shaped papers and toss them into the well. Display popular wishes, and maybe even draw one or two to gift those books to the students as a special surprise!
4. Toll-bridge Troll Challenge: Create a playful troll toll bridge near the entrance or a featured section. Students can interact with a friendly “troll” (a volunteer in costume) who asks fun book-related riddles or trivia. Correct answers could earn them a magical token or sticker that they can collect.
5. Gnome Garden Craft Station: Set up a crafting station where students can create their own mini gnome or fairy garden to take home. Offer small pots, artificial moss, tiny gnome figures, and decorations. They’ll love creating a little piece of Everglow Forest while feeling connected to the magical atmosphere.
6. Meet the Forest Creatures — Storytime with Fairies and Dragons: Host a story time session featuring a costumed fairy, gnome, or dragon reading magical tales to the students. Set up a cozy reading corner with soft lighting, pillows, and nature-themed decorations to make it feel like you’re deep in the forest.
7. Magical Creature Photobooth: Design a photo booth with enchanted backdrops like a fairy forest, dragon’s lair, or unicorn meadow. Provide props like wings, flower crowns, and wizard hats. Students can take pictures to remember their adventure, making the book fair an unforgettable experience.
There are so many ways to create a whimsical wood where students will want to wander. At the Everglow Forest Book Fair, the key to their next favorite read is closer than they think! View our Pinterest board for more decoration ideas.
